What to do

At Cinque Querce e Mezzo you'll be surrounded by ancient history, stunning countryside and authentic food and wine. You can choose to stay at home and relax by the pool or explore the numerous medieval towns each with its own distinctive personality.

There are local open-air markets every morning of the week except Mondays and though there is the convenience of well-stocked supermarkets, you'll find specialist food and wine shops and organic stores in both Citta di Castello and Anghiari. Family restaurants abound in the Valley and our House Book recommends those we know and love from an authentic pizzeria to a romantic enoteca. We can also arrange for a local chef who will cook for you and teach you how to make fresh pasta.

Visit the ancient fortress, Bufalini Castle in San Giustino, just ten minutes from the house, Sansepolcro, a further ten minutes and home to one of the Renaissance's most celebrated artists, Piero della Francesca. In the opposite direction, Citta di Castello is the birthplace of Alberto Burri, one of the 20th century's most acclaimed abstract artists whose amazing artworks can be seen at Palazzo Albizzini in the town centre and at the converted tobacco drying sheds on the outskirts.

Venturing further afield are easy day trips to Arezzo, Assisi, Florence, Siena and Perugia. Also an hour away is The Mall, a designer outlet with labels such as Armani, Burberry, Ferragamo and Tods with the Prada outlet also nearby.
